About Me

Hello! My name is Tilly, and I am an artist, maker, and putter-around-er in Tacoma, Washington. “Technis” is an Ancient Greek word meaning art or craft. Although I dabble in many arts (watercolor, fiber arts, sometimes wire wrapping), the pieces here on my site are acrylic. Growing up in Wisconsin and now living here in the PNW, winters are often gray, and painting garden scenes brings me great joy, which I hope to share with others via my art.

I am trained as a historian and I take a lot of inspiration from historical art and artifacts. I am particularly fond of the ancient Mediterranean – you can see the vivid reds and blues of Minoan murals in my paintings, and many of my earlier garden scenes were inspired by the Roman Villa Livia frescoes.

I like crisp, stylized designs with clear lines along color changes, but have been challenging myself to leave in visible brush strokes and “imperfect” color transitions.

I think that creativity is a big part of the human experience. So I have a very densely packed art corner in my living room, where I can see my art every day, even when I am not actively doing it.

Art is part of who I am. I am excited to start sharing my art with the world.
